Secondary and tertiary represents a critical stage when those who are recovering  have to develop the skills, attitudes and perspectives that are going to help them re-integrate back into society in a fulfilling and effective way. Elixir developed the Creativity Incubator in response to the requests by in patients for activities that were inspirational, fun and creative together with having a strong developmental focus that would enhance people's recovery. To achieve this Elixir adapted many of the cutting edge processes that it had experienced or facilitated in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship and ecological leadership into a 9 week program. The processes had to be unique and not already a part of the established programs in clinics. The process was piloted successfully at the Montrose Recovery Clinic where it continues to help people.

Coming out of addiction and into recovery represents one of the greatest challenges! It also represents a unique opportunity to rediscover one’s authenticity, integrity and spiritual connection. When people leave treatment facilities they need to find careers that support their new found values and which will support their ongoing recovery. Some have very little idea who they are and where they can feel a sense of purpose through contributing towards the economy. Other who have been involved in established careers, need to explore how they can bring greater levels of meaning and purpose to their careers such that they feel fulfilled and happy. Considering that we spend almost a third of our lives working, Elixir believes Vocation development offers recovered addicts a very powerful platform in which to strengthen their recovery and maintain life-long fulfilment.

Whether you are unemployed or on leave, the holidays represent a great opportunity for personal development and strengthening one’s recovery. It can be challenge however, to find experiences that are truly meaningful and life changing. Elixir believes that wilderness journeys can create such an experience and it has committed itself to take people to some of the most remarkable places on Earth to do developmental quests. Elixir Experience’s are group wilderness trails that are held in locations all over the country. They offer people in the fellowship the opportunity to re-energise, re-connect with their higher power and to re-engage in their sense of purpose.
