Montrose approached Elixir and asked the organisation to design a program that gave people in recovery access to some of it's innovative and creative processes as part of their life skill development. The challenge was that the program had to build on and compliment an already specialised and life skill dominated program.

Elixir's program was developed and is being provisionally called the Creativity Incubator. The whole philosophy behind the program is that one of our core needs as individuals is to express ourselves creatively and through our childhood and further on through addiction, we are conditioned out of our unique forms of expression such that we met our other core emotional need, to be accepted by our family, friends and the beliefs, norms and conventional thinking of our community. This lack of self esteem and authenticity is one of the dominating symptoms of addiction and to ensure peoples long term recovery we have to re-engage them in their creative confidence and potential. The program offers some highly creative processes that Elixir has picked up through its involvement in some of the top creative forums. The program is 9 weeks long and includes the following exciting processes:

1-Nature Connections

2-Creative Movie Trailers & Story Telling

3-Musical Orchestras

4-Giraffe Talk-Creative & Non Violent Communication

5-Bio Danza

6-Eco-Facilitation

7-Theatre Sports

8-Lego Play

9-Vision Questing

People who are entering retirement are either being forced by employers or have decided that they want to stop working to enjoy the "good life". What a lot of people don't fully apprecaite is the the sense of meaning and purpose that people gain from their work and when this is taken away, people struggle to find things to live for or don't know where to start in terms of transitioning from one vocation to another. For some retirement is an exprerience of true freedom, rejuvination and leisure. For others though it can be a time of isoltation, disempowerment and even depression. Being told to leave work or that you cannot stay with your children can feel like serious rejection and people start to lose hope in ther lives and all that has given them fulfilment.

Elixir appreciates that people need support in managing the transition and in developiong new vocations that support retiree's new stage of life. The world that we find oursleves is drastically different than when the baby boomer generation first started builidng their careers. It is no longer seen as a job for life as now people will be expected to change their careers 4-5 times in their life time. Never before has technology, communication technology and social networking given peopel the opportunity to access a global market place form their living rooms. Despite the rapid changes, our core emotional needs stay the same and the degreeto which we meet these needs over time, willimpact the egree to whcih we continue to grow and be fulfilled.

As a result Elixir is embarking on offering coaching and facilitated workshops to people in retirment. Elixir has already started building a solid relationship with one of the premier retirment village property developers, Amdec, who are growing the Evergreen brand all around the country. They are seeking to offer their residents a truly holitic retirment experience while their facilitaities are truly first class. To learn more about Evergreen, please go to www.evergreenlifestyle.co.za
