I want to go on a gap year
The gap year can be an amazing opportunity to broaden horizons, enjoy life experiences and gain clarity around potential career choices. The challenge is that these experiences don’t always strike an effective balance between having a structured travel program that fosters development, and the need for adventure, freedom and surprise. As a result, students often return with little or no clarity around future direction, no empowering life experience and a high opportunity cost in terms of finance and time. Elixir has responded to this need in two ways. Firstly through incorporating gap years into its vocation and entrepreneurship development programs so that students can design their travel experience so that it optimises both personal and career development. Secondly, Elixir offers Experiences on major gap year routes that engage travelers around their life purpose and vocation through exposing them to the natural, cultural and spiritual perspectives in each destination. Elixir experiences are unique in that the guide is a qualified life and vocation coach who ensures that students not only have an amazing adventure but that they relate and focus the experience towards a potential career or life purpose.

Work experience and internships are fantastic opportunities to gain employment, research prospective career opportunities, gain business ideas and build relationships with potential mentors or leaders in your industry. Through a lack of clear structure and a limited awareness of the value that these experiences can offer to both the employer and the intern, these programs have often fallen out of favor with many organisations. As a result, internships can be a waste of time and energy for both parties, with there being no further clarity around potential opportunities for mutual benefit.
